This time I will take you on a journey to the "Kakanamth" temple situated at some distance from Gwalior. It is, however a Shiva temple, but some mythological stories related to it which separates it from other temples. Kakanamth temple in Sihonia, Morena, about 75 km from the city of Gwalior, remains a tourist attraction for local as well as abroad tourists. Once known as Singpaani, Sihoniya is having a place on tourism map due to this temple.
This is how the temple looks. Pic courtesy: Wikipedia
How to reach:
There are two ways to reach Kakanmath from Gwalior, the first one is via Malanpur and another one is via Morena. The approaching road via Morena is not is good condition in comparison to Malanpur, so choose the Morena road. The distance of Morena form Gwalior is around 40 kilometers and from Morena, Kakanmath is around 35 kilometers, means the total distance from Gwalior to Kakanmath is around 75 kilometers. Kakanmath is situated at a distance from main road so you cannot get any pubic convenience here, the best way to go here is to use your own vehicle.
Google map to reach here.
Best time to travel:
Since there is a lot of heat in the Gwalior Chambal division, then the best time to visit here is winter, or rainy time.
One of my friends told me about this place and he told me so many times to explore this place. One Sunday, I told him let's do this, and we are ready to explore this place with my 4 friends and 2 bikes.
As always, at 10 o'clock in the morning, we were riding our bikes and moving towards Morena highway via Gole ka mandir road and after some time we were on Morena highway, after reaching Morena we took a stop at Morena's famous food point that offer's the best Kachori and Bedain in the town, we ate Kachori and Bedain and ordered some Kachori and Bedain to packed for further. Kakanmath is around 35 kilometers from Morena, so the journey of about a quarter or an hour was still left.
For your information, I would like to tell that from this road, one of the road is going towards Mitawali and Padavali, this whole area is known as "Chambal Triangal" in which Kakanmath, Mithawali, Padavali, Bateshwar and ancient Shani temple come.
We were enjoying the ride and we were not in hurry to reach, around 1 o'clock we reached Sihoniya, now the temple appeared. The temple is situated in the middle of the village and we were moving forward to see this magical place.
On the main entrance of the temple, a well-known board of protected monument under Madhya Pradesh Tourism was there and the history of temple was written on it. We reached inside the temple by parking the bike, and it seems like the whole world changed for me and some how I entered in the era of stone.
We have seen different types of Shivaji temples around the world, some of them may have been very grand, but this temple was different from all the other temples where full attention is given when building temples like there is no shortage of carving, etc. On the other hand, it seems as if someone has raised the stones and made the temple by putting one above the other, there is no symmetry followed, the only goal was just build the temple. Now the first question that came to my mind was that no lime or gaara was used when making this temple. So how this high structure remain as it is?
It is a legend about this temple built during the reign of King Kirti Singh of the Kachhwaha dynasty that this temple is built on one night, which is constructed by Gan (ghosts) of Bholenath. There is a wonderful thing in this temple that there is no use of garas or lime in its construction. Stones on the stones are kept in such a way that there is a balance between them and the storm can not even shake it.
The plinth of the temple is at a very high altitude, and the height of the temple is more than 150 feet altogether, when you look at the temple carefully, you will find that the stones are placed in such a way that the children are playing games In the house, with bricks and stones, or in many places people often make small houses from the stones around the temples for their future home, the same way the view was here. A stone above the other is kept in balance like this, that in any kind of calamity, even a single stone of this temple does not budge, it is like a miracle in itself.
In the main courtyard of the temple there is a Shivling, which will make you realize that it is a very ancient temple. There is also a broken temple near the main courtyard of the temple, in which only one Shivling and temple window has remained. I was amazed at all this, I started capturing this scene around in the camera so that these memories remain with us. In this entire area, broken stones were scattered all over, which were telling the story about the fragmentation of this temple.
After moving around for a long time, we took out the food that we got from Morena and fill our empty stomach and after putting the garbage in the right place, we all sat under the shed of a tree to have some rest and wondering about this place and thinking like how this temple be made?
It was around 3 o'clock in the evening, now we had to get out of here. Here I would like to say that this place is a bit far from the main road, then try to get back to town at around 4 to 5 pm maximum.

At 3 o'clock we went back to Morena, after reaching Morena my plan was to go ahead to Karahadham (Patiawale Baba Ashram) located on the way before returning home, this is also a wonderful place, you will get to read about this place very soon. Let's end this journey here, hope you liked this trip.
Happy traveling
